GOTRC Finish Line Council Feature: Joan Trimuel Williams

We’re kicking off our birthday month by featuring our Finish Line Council Chair Joan Trimuel Williams! Joan, Director of Compliance for Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, has been instrumental in Girls on the Run-Chicago’s growth since the early 2000s. She started as a member of our inaugural Associate Board and went on to serve as the president of our Governing Board from 2021 to 2023, in addition to showing up as a Coach and a volunteer.

Her leadership and organizational planning skills were crucial in the development of our 2022-2027 Strategic Plan, and we are grateful for her generosity and the joy she brings to our community. We sat down to chat with Joan about her Girls on the Run journey and the vision for Girls on the Run-Chicago’s future.

I am using my time, talents, and treasures to make an impact with GOTRC. Time: I volunteer at events and fulfill board commitments; Talents: I use my expertise to support operational initiatives; and Treasures: I contribute and engage my network to donate.

Why do you support GOTRC?

I support GOTRC because I believe in the mission. GOTRC gives participants the tools to navigate the many transitions they will experience in life.

What is your favorite thing about Girls on the Run?

I love to see the program in action—whether a practice or race day—the joy of the girls in these moments is encouraging.

What is your superpower?

My superpower is an attitude of gratitude.

What advice would you give to your 10-year-old self?

Be bold, courageous, and speak up for yourself—your voice matters.

What have you learned about yourself while working with GOTRC?

The work of building self-confidence and self-esteem is a continuous journey. The GOTRC lessons are needed even in adulthood.

What do you hope to see GOTRC accomplish in the next five years?

I hope GOTRC fully realizes the goals of the Strategic Plan: having a tremendous impact on the communities that need us the most.
