Course Information

The course is 3.1 miles and will run along the spectacular Chicago lakefront. 


Packet Pick-Up

Girls who are currently participating in the program are already registered. 5k materials (bibs, pins, goody bags) will be distributed to the girls the day of the event. Girl packets will not be available at our Packet Pick-Up location or the Girls on the Run office.

For all others (Running Buddies, coaches, family members and community runners), packet pick-up will take place as follows:

Participants should be prepared to provide their bib number [CLICK HERE FOR BIB LOOK UP] in order to receive their 5k bag with event shirt and bib. A photo ID is not required, and you can pick up for participants other than yourself. Please note, group pickups will be processed separately as time and staff resources allow, so please plan accordingly and allow extra time.

If you are not able to pick up your packet before the event, you should plan to arrive at least 60-90 minutes prior to your start time as lines may be long.


Is parking available?

GOTRC is not providing car parking for the event. Millenium Garages is offering a discounted rate of $15 for all 5k participants and spectators. Click here to book your discounted parking in advance! We strongly encourage carpooling and/or taking public transit when possible.

Where should I go when I arrive?

We ask that you plan to arrive on site 60 minutes prior to your start time. In order to ensure the safety of all participants, all runners should have a pre-5k gathering spot at the school flags. GOTRC program participants should go to their site flag upon arrival. Click here to view a site map. 

When is start time?

Runners will be assigned a Start Group letter which will be listed on each participant's bib. Bus arrival times have been factored in to Start Group assignments and announcements will be made as to when each group should line up at the staging area beginning with Start Group A at 7:50 a.m. Groups will step off in approximately ten-minute increments with Start Group A starting at 8:00 a.m. Click here to see a list of start groups by site. All start times are subject to change.


Water will be available at the start. Two Aid stations will be available on the course. Each participant should plan to take no more than two servings of water at each Aid Station. Runners are also encouraged to bring water bottles along on the course. Additional water and snacks will be available at the finish line.

Can I bring my pet? What about a stroller?

Pets are not allowed on the course. Jogging strollers are allowed but we ask anyone using a stroller to start at the end of the Start Groups for the safety of all participants.

What happens if there is inclement weather?

The event will take place as long as weather conditions allow. To ensure runner safety, an Event Alert System (EAS) is being used to monitor conditions and communicate to runners the current safety level. The current EAS level for May 20, as determined by our medical director, is YELLOW due to rain and possible thunderstorms.

On 5k day, the current Event Alert System status will be communicated via text opt-ins, public address announcements and color-coded signs/flags at the start and finish areas, and along the course at each of the Aid Stations. All participants should familiarize themselves with the Event Alert System prior to the event, remain alert for directions from race officials and announcers and take precautions to prepare properly for varying weather conditions on race day. In the event of cancellation, notification will emailed to participants and posted on the GOTRC website. There is no rain date and no refunds.

Volunteer Registration

This event would not be possible without the help of amazing volunteers who believe in our mission and show up to support our girls. Over 1000 volunteers are needed to put on our best 5K yet! Whatever your special skills and talents, we have a role for everyone.


Volunteers will help with 5K registration, assisting pre-registered runners and event day runners. Approximate arrival time 5:30 a.m. Time commitment is 4 to 5 hours. This volunteer opportunity is best suited for individuals over 18 years of age.


Volunteers will help with logistics and operations. Potential responsibilities include: parking attendants, helping to distribute water to runners, assisting runners at the start line and on the course. Approximate time of arrival is 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Time commitment is 4 to 6 hours. These volunteer opportunities are best suited for adults, older teens and adult groups.


Volunteers will help greet buses upon arrival and assist coaches with their 5K materials. Assistance will also be needed with runner refreshments and medal distribution at the finish line, and at the information and merchandise tents. Approximate time of arrival is 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Time commitment is 4 to 6 hours. This volunteer opportunity is best suited for individuals over 18 years of age.


Volunteers will help with GOTR activities including cheer stations along the course, tiara decorating, face painting, and happy hair. Approximate time of arrival is 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Time commitment is 4 to 5 hours. These volunteer opportunities are great for parents, teens, and groups.
