About the Event

The Girls on the Run 5K is a spectacle of Girl Power! Not only the 5K, but the entire morning is full of fun activities. All runners are welcome to participate in GOTR cheers, face painting and tiara decorating, in addition to a great post-race festival that features great food, games and sponsor giveaways!

 

The Girls on the Run 5K is a CARA registered fun run. All finishers receive “woo hoos!” and the admiration of numerous spectators, but runners are not timed nor are awards given. Everyone who crosses the finish line is a winner!

Course

The course runs along the beautiful Chicago lakefront, starting and finishing at Montrose Harbor. Water will be provided at hydration stations. Baby joggers and strollers are welcome as long as participants start at the back of the pack.

Event Alert System

The Event Alert System (EAS) will communicate the status of course conditions to participants leading up to and on race day. The levels range from Low (green) to Moderate (yellow) to High (red) to Extreme (black) based on a variety of factors, including weather conditions. E-mail and Web site communications during race week will inform participants of the current Event Alert System status and provide preparation tips based on advance weather forecasts. On race day, the current Event Alert System status will be communicated via public address announcements and color-coded signs/flags at the start and finish areas, and along the course at each of the aid stations. All participants should familiarize themselves with the Event Alert System prior to the race, remain alert for directions from race officials and announcers and take precautions to prepare properly for varying weather conditions on race day.

T-Shirt and Goodie Bag

The first 6000 particIpants will receive an official event shirt-all participants will receive a fantastic goody bag.

Post Race Celebration

Stay after the race for the celebration! There will be great food, interactive sponsor booths to visit, and music. We’ll have games and giveaways, face painting, tiara decorating, photo booths and more!

Transportation and Parking

Help us reduce our carbon footprint! Girls on the Run-Chicago strongly recommends carpooling, using public transportation, or riding your bicycle to the event. To determine the best route to travel via public transportation, please visit the CTA’s trip planner http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com/. Bicycle parking will be available at the race site.

Please allow plenty of time as the road closures at the race site will begin at 6:30 am.
