We fully support sharing race day excitement with a friend, which is why each of our program participants run the Girls on the Run 5k with a running buddy! This is a fun way to support our girls and be involved with the 5k. This is ideal for those who would like to coach, but do not have the time to commit to coaching an entire season. Once you commit to being a running buddy and register for the 5k, you will be asked permission for a background check and then will be paired with a girl. Your job is to complete the 5k at her pace and provide support, encouragement, and FUN throughout the 3.1 miles. Our fall 5k will be held on November 15 at Montrose Harbor.
The Girls on the Run 5k takes place in the spring and the fall to highlight each program season. As a volunteer, you will join our 8-14 year old program girls, their coaches, running buddies, families and members of the Chicago running community as we celebrate completing their season.
Hundreds of volunteers make 5k day
run smoothly each year. If interested in volunteering, you could be doing anything from pouring water at an aid station to decorating foam tiaras at the activities tent to helping with registration. And we love volunteer groups on 5k day! Our fall 5k will be held November 15 at Montrose Harbor. Click here to sign up as an individual or group volunteer!
Throughout the year, various one-time volunteer opportunities arise. Girls on the Run-Chicago always needs help with things like assembling and disassembling program supplies, promoting the organization at race expos, cheering on runners during the Bank of America Chicago Marathon or helping out in our office during the day or at scheduled evening support events. Check back for opportunities as they are posted or email Devon to sign up for our monthly e-newsletter.
Sparkle & Shine Gala and Spring Give for Girls
The Girls on the Run-Chicago Gala and Spring Give for Girls are our yearly fundraisers. The 15th Annual Sparkle & Shine Gala will be held on Friday, November 21 at the Drake Hotel. We host more than 500 fitness enthusiasts, supporters and parents of Girls on the Run program participants, as well as other community leaders. One of the highlights of the Gala is our unrivaled sports, adventure and fitness silent and live auctions. All funds raised from the Gala directly benefit girls throughout the Chicagoland area as we start new program sites each spring. We are in need of dedicated volunteers to help with the Gala auction throughout the summer as part of our Auction Committee. We also use volunteers for preparation and night-of activities.
The Spring Give for Girls is a formal dinner event held each April also at The Drake Hotel. Volunteers are appreciated as greeters for the evening. If you are interested in helping out with either of these special events, email Devon.
